Porsche's Taycan Turbo GT with the new Manthey Kit has claimed the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for production electric vehicles, posting a 6:55.553 time on the 12.94-mile circuit. Development driver Lars Kern piloted the machine to the benchmark.
The Taycan Turbo GT combines a 938-horsepower electric powertrain with the Weissach Package's weight-saving carbon fiber components and aerodynamic upgrades. The addition of the Manthey Kit, a new performance enhancement package, shaved 12 seconds off Kern's previous Taycan record from October 2023 and crushed the prior "Electric Executive Cars" category mark by over nine seconds.
This result underscores a decisive shift in EV performance hierarchy. The Taycan Turbo GT now owns the bragging rights once held by Tesla on Germany's most demanding test track. Porsche's engineering advantage centers on its dual-motor architecture, 800-volt electrical system, and track-focused cooling management. The Weissach Package trims roughly 40 pounds through carbon upgrades and active aerodynamics, while the Manthey Kit adds another layer of suspension refinement and brake optimization developed through Porsche's GT racing operation.
The benchmark matters for the luxury EV segment. Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, and BMW all compete for high-performance electric credentials, and lap times generate marketing gravitas that 0-60 claims cannot match. Nürburgring records carry weight with enthusiasts and dealers alike.
The Taycan Turbo GT starts near $180,000 in the U.S. market, positioning it against the Tesla Model S Plaid and upcoming Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 AMG
