BMW's redesigned 2027 iX3 delivers a significant leap in range capability, hitting 434 miles on the EPA cycle. The electric compact luxury SUV starts at $62,850, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y Long Range and upcoming Cadillac Lyriq refresh.

That 434-mile EPA rating represents a substantial improvement over the current iX3 generation, which maxes out around 380 miles. BMW achieves this through a combination of a larger battery pack and refinements to the xDrive all-wheel-drive system's efficiency. The company has not disclosed the exact kilowatt-hour capacity, but industry sources suggest the pack exceeds 85 kWh net capacity.

The iX3 continues BMW's dual approach to electric vehicles. While the company aggressively develops the dedicated iX sedan and iX M60 performance variant, the iX3 serves as an electrified version of the X3 platform. This strategy lets BMW leverage existing manufacturing and component suppliers while offering buyers a more conventional SUV shape than the iX's polarizing design.

Pricing places the iX3 in the premium EV compact SUV segment. At $62,850, it undercuts the Model Y Long Range by roughly $8,000 and sits near Tesla's recent price cuts. Cadillac's Lyriq AWD starts at $63,290, making these three vehicles the primary rivals for affluent buyers who prioritize range and brand prestige over raw performance.

Federal tax credits remain uncertain for 2027, but if the iX3 qualifies for the full $7,500 rebate, the effective starting price drops to $55,350. That pricing becomes highly competitive against the Model Y, which faces tightening margins on base configurations.
