Valeo has secured a contract to supply advanced driver assistance systems to an Indian truck manufacturer. The French tier-one supplier will provide its Smart Safety 360 platform, which bundles automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and drowsiness detection.

This deal marks continued expansion of ADAS technology into commercial vehicle markets outside North America and Europe. Indian truck operators face challenging road conditions with high accident rates, making safety systems increasingly attractive to fleet operators seeking to reduce collisions and insurance costs.

Valeo's Smart Safety 360 uses camera and radar sensors to detect obstacles, monitor lane position, and identify signs of driver fatigue. The system can apply brakes autonomously if a collision risk emerges, while alerting drivers through visual and audio warnings. Drowsiness monitoring has particular value in India, where long-haul trucking involves extended driving shifts.

The deal reflects broader industry momentum around commercial vehicle safety. Major OEMs in India including Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Ashok Leyland face pressure to upgrade safety specifications as regulations tighten and fleet operators demand better crash avoidance technology. Valeo competes directly with Mobileye, Bosch, and Aptiv for these contracts.

For Valeo, securing Indian truck business diversifies revenue beyond passenger vehicles where competition from Chinese suppliers intensifies. Indian commercial vehicle production exceeds 3 million units annually, offering significant scale. The Indian truck market prioritizes cost-effective solutions, where Valeo's modular approach—combining proven sensors and algorithms—delivers competitive pricing against fully custom systems.

This contract also signals growing acceptance of ADAS in emerging markets. While safety regulations in India remain less prescriptive than in Europe, fleet economics increasingly justify the investment. Reducing accident frequency directly improves profitability for trucking operators managing fuel costs and driver expenses.
