Mercedes-AMG launches a four-door electric sedan built to outgun the Porsche Taycan in the ultra-premium EV segment. The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door represents a bold bet on high-performance electrification at a time when several competitors have scaled back EV ambitions.
The GT 4-Door slots into Mercedes-AMG's expanding electric lineup as a direct challenger to Taycan's dominance in the luxury performance sedan category. While specific powertrain details remain under wraps, expect dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and 500-plus horsepower to compete with Taycan's 402-563 hp range depending on configuration.
Mercedes' willingness to push forward with this model contrasts sharply with industry headwinds. Audi halted e-tron GT production earlier this year. BMW delayed its i5 M sedan. General Motors and Ford have retreated from some EV commitments. Mercedes-AMG, however, sees the performance EV market as a growth opportunity rather than a distraction.
The four-door configuration matters. Taycan captured sales by combining sports car performance with practical sedan space. Mercedes recognizes this formula works. The GT 4-Door platform leverages the company's AMG.EA architecture, the same foundation underpinning the upcoming electric C-Class and E-Class variants from 2024 onward.
Pricing will position this above standard Mercedes-AMG models but below the EQS SUV line. Expect a starting point around $110,000 to $120,000 when the 2027 model arrives stateside, placing it directly adjacent to Taycan's $79,990 base price but competing for the same buyer seeking German engineering, three-box sedan practicality, and zero-to-60
