Manthey Racing's heavily modified version of the previous-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS has set a new lap record at Road Atlanta, beating the Chevrolet Corvette C8 ZR1's established time on the circuit.
The Manthey package transforms the 911 GT2 RS into a track-focused weapon. This isn't a standard performance upgrade. Manthey's modifications target every aspect of the car, from aerodynamics to suspension geometry to engine calibration. The tuner strips weight, adds downforce, and recalibrates the turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six for maximum track output.
What makes this record notable is the baseline car itself. The 911 GT2 RS already sits at the top of Porsche's current 911 lineup, producing 700 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque in stock form. Adding Manthey's engineering expertise elevates it into a different category entirely.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8 ZR1 presents a serious alternative in this performance space. General Motors just began deliveries of this new-generation supercar, which pairs a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 making 670 horsepower with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and advanced suspension tuning. At Road Atlanta, the ZR1 demonstrated genuine competency on technical road courses, not just straight-line acceleration.
Yet the Manthey-modified 911 GT2 RS proved faster on this particular track. Road Atlanta demands precision through high-speed corners and technical transitions. The previous-gen 911's handling balance, combined with Manthey's aerodynamic enhancements and suspension refinements, delivered the edge needed to beat the ZR1
