Genesis confirms a high-performance variant of its GV60 electric crossover, badged the GV60 Magma, arriving in 2027. The model marks the automaker's push into performance-focused EVs under a new sub-brand identity.
The GV60 Magma serves as Genesis's answer to Hyundai's Ioniq 5 N, which delivers 641 horsepower and sub-4-second 0-60 times. Genesis hasn't released performance specs for the Magma yet, but expect similar power output and acceleration figures given the shared E-GMP platform that underpins both vehicles.
This launch reflects a broader industry trend. Luxury brands are pivoting toward electrified performance. Porsche's Taycan Turbo S and BMW's i7 M60 demonstrate that buyers at the premium tier demand speed alongside sustainability credentials. Genesis, Hyundai's luxury division, now competes directly in this space.
The Magma badge itself signals strategic positioning. Rather than simply calling it GV60 N or GV60 Performance, Genesis creates a standalone performance sub-brand. This mirrors BMW's M Division strategy and gives the company room to expand Magma variants across future models.
The existing GV60 already impresses with dual motors, up to 320 miles of range, and a sophisticated dual-screen interior. The Magma iteration will prioritize acceleration and handling dynamics over efficiency. Expect upgraded suspension tuning, performance brakes, wider body work, and aggressive aerodynamics.
