McLaren has unveiled the 788HS, a new hardcore variant positioned above the standard 570S in its lineup. The model emphasizes aggressive styling and track-focused performance through extensive exterior revisions.
The 788HS features a redesigned front fascia with enlarged air intakes and a more pronounced splitter. McLaren widened the body at the wheel arches, accommodating wider track geometry and larger performance tires. The rear end receives a taller, more angular wing that generates additional downforce for cornering grip.
Side-profile changes include vented fenders and resculpted door panels. The manufacturer deleted unnecessary body cladding, revealing the underlying structure in carbon-fiber visible weave. Lightweight forged wheels, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, fill the arches with minimal clearance.
The hood vents channels air flow away from the engine bay. Aerodynamic side skirts extend beneath the doors. At the rear, a widened diffuser and twin exhaust outlets signal the performance upgrade.
McLaren maintains the mid-engine layout from the 570S platform but heightened the power output on the 788HS to 815 horsepower from a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8. The brand targets a 0-60 time under 2.8 seconds and a top speed exceeding 220 mph.
The 788HS slots into McLaren's existing Sports Series range as the extreme expression of what that platform can achieve. This vehicle competes directly with the Ferrari 488 Pista and Lamborghini Huracan Performante in the high-performance supercar segment where buyers prioritize track capability over luxury.
The extensive exterior modifications serve functional purposes. Every line, every vent, every surface curves to reduce drag or amplify downforce.
