Lego Ideas requires 10,000 supporter votes for a project to enter review by Lego's design team. If approved, the set would join Lego's growing automotive lineup, which has expanded significantly beyond traditional brick vehicles. The McRae Subaru concept taps into serious nostalgia. McRae dominated world rallying throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, claiming the World Rally Championship in 1995 and establishing Subaru as a rally powerhouse. His death in 2007 cemented his status as a motorsport legend.
The timing aligns with renewed interest in rally racing among younger audiences, driven by viral social media content and rally-focused video games like Dirt Rally. Licensed Lego automotive sets have proven commercially successful, with the Lego Technic line offering construction-focused vehicle builds and the newer Speed Champions line targeting casual fans with smaller, snap-together models.
