Colton Herta remains one superlicense point short of his target after an IndyCar website error inflated his championship standings. IndyCar's database initially showed Herta finishing sixth in the 2025 championship instead of seventh, which gave him credit for 36 superlicense points when he actually earned 35. Felix Rosenqvist finished ahead of Herta in the final standings. IndyCar confirmed the mistake stemmed from a database display error that was corrected this week to reflect official standings published August 31, 2025.
The FIA discovered the error during fact-checking in the spring but did not revisit the calculation until this weekend. The FIA used the Wayback Machine to trace when the championship standings were changed incorrectly over the summer, confirming they were correct at the start of the year.
Herta participated in back-to-back FP1 sessions in Austin and Mexico City while campaigning in Formula 2, aiming to accumulate the 40 superlicense points needed for an F1 drive. His F2 results have yielded no points, so practice session mileage provided his only path forward. Cadillac has already used one extra rookie practice session beyond the mandatory four required annually. Herta's Monza session in September did not clock enough distance to count. Cadillac must run one more practice before season's end, with the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend as an option.
Cadillac has only confirmed Sergio Perez's contract extension. A driver change from Valtteri Bottas' seat appears imminent for 2027.
