Ford announced a "Privacy Promise" commitment days after General Motors agreed to a $220 million settlement with 36 states over selling customer data without consent. Ford's pledge promises customers that their vehicle data is safe and that they control what they share.

Ford launched a new website outlining its data practices and providing guidance on how to deactivate data sharing and collection across its webpages, mobile app, and vehicles. The site does not offer a single control to turn all data sharing on or off at once, requiring owners to navigate multiple settings instead.

The GM settlement, which does not provide payouts to individual drivers, prompted Ford's proactive announcement on privacy protections.
