Mitsubishi has released full specifications for the new Pajero SUV, a three-row, ladder-frame 4x4 that launches in Japan next month. The company still has not decided whether to bring it to the U.S. market.

The Pajero measures 193.7 inches long, 75.8 inches wide, and 75.2 inches tall, placing it within inches of the Toyota 4Runner but narrower overall. It seats seven across three rows and comes standard with four-wheel drive.

The Japanese-market powertrain is a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel inline-four producing 201 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Mitsubishi claims 28 mpg on the WLTP cycle. That engine is unlikely to reach the U.S.

In Japan, the Pajero starts at the equivalent of $39,000 and tops out at $50,000 for the Super Exceed trim. For comparison, the Toyota 4Runner starts around $44,000 and the Land Cruiser nearly $60,000.

Mitsubishi's U.S. division acknowledged the global Pajero debut in August, stating: "While no decision has been made regarding a U.S. introduction of this vehicle, the model's return strengthens Mitsubishi Motors globally by reconnecting the brand with one of its most iconic and celebrated nameplates." The company has long been expected to resurrect the Montero nameplate in America, with a version of this Pajero as the likely candidate.
