A 1997 Ford Ranger Splash converted to electric power is for sale on Bring a Trailer. The truck wears its original Canary Yellow paint and runs an Advanced D.C. Motors FB1-4001A motor producing between 18 and 30 horsepower, down from the original 3.0-liter V6's 140 horsepower. The conversion was performed by Electric Vehicles of America.

The truck retains its original five-speed manual transmission. Shifting requires no clutch. The driver starts in low gear, then shifts to match speed. The dashboard carries instructions for this operation along with three gauges for battery volts, amps, and charge level, plus a warning light for motor heat and an on/off switch for the 1,500-watt electric heater.

The battery pack consists of 20 Trojan six-volt batteries wired in series to produce 120 volts for the Curtis controller. Batteries sit in a box between the frame rails, in the bed, and under the hood. The charger lives under the hood and plugs into a standard household outlet. No fast charging is available.

Electric Vehicles of America estimates range between 38 and 81 miles, with an average of 53 miles. The batteries in this truck are not new, so actual range will be lower. The truck suits short runs around town between charging cycles.

The truck shows a torn headliner and some dents and dings but remains in good shape for a 1997 Ranger. It comes with documentation. At the time of writing, the high bid was $300 with no reserve.
