Sterling Anderson, who led Tesla's Autopilot program in 2015 and 2016 and now serves as GM Chief Product Officer, criticized Tesla's decision to rely solely on cameras for autonomous driving. Anderson called the vision-only approach "a weird religious stance that ignores physics."
Anderson's comments represent the sharpest criticism of Tesla's camera-only strategy from someone directly involved in building the original Autopilot system. Tesla is currently deploying camera-only Cybercabs in driverless service in Austin.
