Four Car and Driver staff members configured their ideal 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, each choosing a different approach to the truck's trim levels and options.

The first staffer selected a regular-cab Work Truck (WT) with rear-wheel drive and a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder as a platform for aftermarket modifications. The factory price was $41,720. They specified Apex Red paint at no cost, opted for cloth seats over Evotex, and added a black bowtie emblem for $325. They planned additional modifications including a McGaughy's Suspension lowering kit ($1,380), Mickey Thompson 20-inch wheels ($1,143.96), and Nitto NT420V tires ($924), bringing the total to $45,167.96 before an engine swap.

The second staffer also chose a regular-cab WT starting at $41,395 but added the $4,600 four-wheel-drive system and $970 4x4-specific Work Truck package with automatic transfer case mode, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and hill-descent control. They added the $395 automatic locking rear differential, $515 Power package with adjustable driver seat and lumbar support, $75 leather-wrapped steering wheel, $150 heated steering wheel, $545 Assisted Driving package with 360-degree camera, and $1,175 WT Convenience package. The total came to $49,920.

The third staffer chose a crew cab with short bed in LT trim starting at $53,195 with the standard 2.7-liter turbo four and rear-wheel drive. They selected White Sands paint at no cost, kept 18-inch wheels standard, upgraded to black-and-tan upholstery by adding the $2,290 Comfort and Convenience package with bucket seats and Bose stereo, and added all-weather floor mats. The total was $55,770.

The fourth staffer selected a Work Truck and upgraded from regular cab to crew cab for roughly $9,000, then added $350 17-inch silver wheels.
