Yamaha withdrew from next week's MotoGP Qatar Grand Prix, citing company-wide travel restrictions to the Middle East. The Japanese manufacturer announced the decision Sunday at the Malaysian Grand Prix, stating it "has not identified sufficient grounds to change its existing company-wide travel restrictions" following an assessment of the regional situation.
The team said the pullout reflects Yamaha's independent evaluation and does not factor in MotoGP's safety measures. Yamaha plans to return to competition at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
MotoGP responded that it is disappointed by the decision. The series consulted with the State of Qatar, Lusail International Circuit, independent safety advisors, and conducted its own risk assessment, concluding no information warranted canceling the event. MotoGP stated that all other teams on the grid confirmed they will compete in Qatar.
Monster Energy Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins currently sit 14th and 20th in the standings, while Prima Pramac Yamaha's Jack Miller sits 19th.
MotoGP noted contractual and sporting implications from Yamaha's absence, with the FIM to manage any sporting consequences under championship regulations.
