Range Rover will discontinue both the Evoque and Velar after 2027, according to Autocar's report citing Martin Limpert, Range Rover's global managing director. Neither model will receive a new generation.
The current Evoque launched in 2018 and received a mid-cycle refresh for 2024. The Velar debuted in 2017 and also got a refresh for the 2024 model year. Discontinuing both vehicles will eliminate Range Rover's entry-level offerings and leave the brand with only the traditional Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and the incoming Range Rover GT.
Jaguar Land Rover plans to use its Defender and Discovery brands to serve the lower end of the market instead. A smaller Defender model could replace the Evoque, while the Discovery already competes at similar pricing to the Velar. The Discovery Sport is confirmed to end production this year.
Both the Evoque and Velar launched as controversial projects but significantly increased JLR sales numbers by making the Range Rover badge more accessible. The Evoque Convertible became one of the brand's most unusual variants.
