A 19-year-old Florida man accused of stealing a $210,000 Porsche Panamera was caught largely because he wore a GPS ankle monitor at the time of the October 24 theft.
Joseph Dexter Watson IV and at least three accomplices allegedly arrived at a multimillion-dollar mansion in Miami-Dade County's Horse Country neighborhood in a Mercedes-Benz shortly before 6:30 p.m. According to investigators, the group broke into a Cadillac Escalade parked outside the gated property. One suspect then climbed over a fence and stole the Porsche, which contained seven pairs of shoes valued at roughly $4,200.
The Porsche's owner tracked the car to a Hampton Inn parking lot in Deerfield Beach. When Broward Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, they found the vehicle empty.
Watson had been ordered to wear the GPS ankle monitor as a condition of release on bond in March, following his arrest in January for leading police on a chase in a rented Kia that crashed into a mail truck. Investigators say the ankle monitor placed Watson at the scene of the Porsche theft. He now faces charges including traveling with intent to commit burglary of an occupied dwelling, masked burglary of an occupied dwelling, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
