Honda confirmed Friday that a Honda Racing Corporation version of the Civic Type R is in development for the U.S. market. The company first displayed the HRC Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January and brought it to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last week.
Specific details remain limited. The camouflaged concept suggests the HRC model will receive more aggressive aerodynamic parts and enhanced cooling. Based on typical performance variants, the car may feature lighter wheels, stickier tires, revised suspension, chassis stiffening, and possibly a power increase. The standard Civic Type R produces 315 horsepower, though Honda has not confirmed whether the HRC version will exceed that output.
Honda says the CTR HRC aims for "ultimate pure sports performance" using HRC technology and racing driver expertise. The company frames it as delivering a more extreme driving experience, which Honda's description suggests will prioritize performance over daily-driver practicality.
The HRC Concept shared Honda's SEMA stand with a Passport Baja trophy truck, a Passport TrailSport Baja Chase support vehicle, a Prelude modified by Hasport, and several race cars including the Aston Martin AMR26 Formula 1 car powered by a Honda RA626H engine.
