Rivian operates without traditional dealerships, instead using Spaces in cities like Chicago, Denver, and New York where customers can view vehicles and book test drives online.

To test drive a Rivian, you must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license. Proof of insurance may be required depending on the drive length and purpose. You'll need to sign a liability waiver on-site and bring a car seat if passengers under eight will be present.

Customers book test drives through the Rivian website by selecting a model, location, and time. The R1S, one of only two large SUVs with a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, is among the available options.

A Rivian specialist conducts a walkaround of the vehicle before the drive, explaining key features. Test drives typically last around 30 minutes on public roads with a specialist accompanying the customer. Some locations offer extended demo drives lasting up to 24 hours.
