Subaru plans to develop its own electric vehicle range independently, despite Toyota holding a 21% stake in the company. The Japanese automaker produced 857,000 vehicles last year and projects 2026 output of 935,000 units. Those totals exclude electric models like the Solterra, Uncharted, and Getaway, which Toyota manufactures. Subaru will tap key Toyota suppliers as it pursues its own EV strategy, charting a separate course from its larger shareholder while remaining operationally linked to the automotive giant.
