Honda has teased the Avancier, a crossover targeted at Japanese and Australian markets that carries forward the design language originally planned for the scrapped 0-Series electric vehicle line. The new vehicle bears visual similarities to both the abandoned 0-Series SUV and a hybrid sedan concept shown in May.
The Avancier will wear "Honda Hybrid" badging, suggesting it will use the company's next-generation gas-electric powertrain. American Honda confirmed to Road & Track that the Avancier itself will not come to the U.S. market. However, the styling and hybrid system concepts may preview what Honda plans for an upcoming redesigned CR-V for American buyers.
Honda discontinued the 0-Series EV line earlier this year, but the design language those vehicles introduced is moving forward through production models. The Avancier name was previously used on a Japanese station wagon and a Chinese-market crossover. This new model positions itself as a crossover comparable to vehicles like the American CR-V or Passport.
