McLaren will launch a new supercar in 2027 called the McL 820, marking the start of a unified naming system for both its road and racing vehicles. The number 820 denotes the car's 820PS (603kW) power output, while the McL prefix references the company's motorsport heritage.
The naming structure pairs the shared prefix with a numerical identifier tied to performance. McLaren says the approach creates a clearer, more consistent identity across its automotive and racing divisions. The company revealed the name by placing a camouflaged kiwi statue bearing the McL 820 badge in central London, invoking founder Bruce McLaren's original adoption of the kiwi emblem.
Woking-based McLaren will release further details of the McL 820 in 2027. The company sells cars in more than 40 markets.
