The Texas Department of Public Safety's North Texas Region announced that a Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will join its fleet. The SUV produces 710 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and reaches a top speed of 180 miles per hour.

The DPS stated its mission simply: "All that horsepower. One mission: Public Safety." The agency did not specify how the vehicle will be deployed, whether for highway pursuits, emergency response, or community events.

The Durango SRT Hellcat carries a base price around $80,000 and weighs approximately 5,600 pounds. Fuel economy presents a practical limitation. The EPA rates the supercharged SUV at 14 miles per gallon combined, a figure likely to drop significantly during aggressive driving. Road & Track's testing of a less powerful 2026 Durango R/T 392 achieved just 10.7 miles per gallon.

The Texas DPS did not respond to requests for additional comment on the vehicle's intended use by the time of publication.
