Car and Driver ranked the top 10 car brands by averaging ratings across hundreds of models tested on a one-to-10 scale. The ranking reflects how competitively each brand performs within its segments based on objective instrumented testing and subjective real-world driving experience.
Lucid ranks highest. The electric luxury automaker started selling cars a few years ago. Both the Lucid Air sedan and Lucid Gravity SUV won Car and Driver's 10Best award.
Porsche places second. The brand expanded from sports cars into SUVs, sedans, and electric models. The 911 serves as the foundation for Porsche's driving dynamics, which the brand carries into its broader lineup.
Rivian ranks third among the top 10. Like Lucid, it is a new EV automaker with a limited model range. The R1S SUV, R1T pickup truck, and recently arrived R2 compact SUV all rate highly.
Genesis, Hyundai's luxury spinoff launched in 2015, rounds out the top four. The GV70 and GV80 luxury SUVs and the G70, G80, and G90 sedans sit near the top of their classes.
Honda ranks fifth. The Accord, Civic, and CR-V form the core of sales, while the Passport SUV and high-performance Civic Si and Type R variants also contribute strong ratings.
Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, and Mazda complete the top 10. Car and Driver notes its ratings represent a snapshot and change constantly as new products are evaluated.
