Buick has revealed the Electra GS, a new plug-in hybrid sedan designed for the Chinese market. The car emerged through a filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology after first appearing as a concept in 2025.

The production Electra GS looks significantly different from the concept, featuring a traditional sedan shape with sharp, C-shaped LED headlights and a fastback roofline. It measures 196.0 inches long, making it slightly smaller than Buick's existing Electra L7 sedan. The GS is 1.5 inches narrower and has a 5.3-inch shorter wheelbase than the L7.

Two engine options power the plug-in hybrid: a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-four with 97 horsepower or a turbocharged 1.5-liter producing 154 horsepower. Both pair with a 221-horsepower electric motor drawing from a lithium iron phosphate battery. Buick currently sells the Electra L7 with electric and range-extender plug-in hybrid powertrains, positioning the Electra GS as a less potent and more affordable alternative.

The Electra GS will not reach the U.S. market. Buick currently offers only SUVs in America, though the company has reports of a new sedan on the horizon. The Electra GS styling could preview the direction of a rumored gas-powered sedan expected within the next couple of years.
